Surrogate Stages: Theater und Neue Medien

In der Präsentation wird es darum gehen, die gegenwärtige theater-
wissenschaftliche Diskussion um Theater und Medialität zu reflektieren.
Dabei wird die Frage des 'Liveness' eine zentrale Rolle spielen.

Als Beispiele sollen zwei Inszenierungen näher besprochen werden:
Das erste Beispiel ist die viel beachtete Bearbeitung von Prousts
"A la recherche du temps perdu" inszeniert von Guy Cassiers am
RO Theater, Rotterdam. Diese Produktion arbeitet mit digitalen Projektionstechniken, die Surrogate der Schauspieler erzeugten.
Zweites Beispiel ist "Call Kutta" von Rimini Protokoll, eine Performance,
die Berlin mit Indien über Handys verband, besprochen werden.

Surrogate Stages: Theater and New Media

Prof. Dr. Balme will reflect on the current discussion in the field of
drama studies on the use of media in the theater, in which the
question of "liveness" plays a central role.

Two productions will be discussed in detail as examples: The first example
is the much-praised version of Proust's "A la recherche du temps perdu"
directed by Guy Cassiers at the RO Theater, Rotterdam. This production
uses digital projection techniques to create surrogates of the actors. The
second example is "Call Kutta" by Rimini Protokoll, a performance that
connects Berlin with India via mobile phones.

This presentation is a continuation of the series on media theory
begun in May with the presentation by Prof. Dr. Stefan Römer.
