Prof.
Dr. Christopher Balme
Surrogate
Stages: Theater and New Media
Prof.
Dr. Balme will reflect on the current discussion in the field
of
drama studies on the use of media in the theater, in which
the
question of "liveness" plays a central role.
Two
productions will be discussed in detail as examples: The first
example
is the much-praised version of Proust's "A la recherche
du temps perdu"
directed by Guy Cassiers at the RO Theater, Rotterdam. This
production
uses digital projection techniques to create surrogates of
the actors. The
second example is "Call Kutta" by Rimini Protokoll,
a performance that
connects Berlin with India via mobile phones.
This presentation is a continuation of the
series on media theory
begun in May with the presentation by Prof. Dr. Stefan Römer.
Moderation: Horst Konietzny
