Installation description for The Golden Seed
The Golden Seed can be shown either:
- using a single, relatively small monitor, hidden behind a golden picture frame and buried within a
low, dark space;
- or as a video projection on a large, almost wall-sized screen within a normal room.
"Buried monitor" installation:
Ideal sites:
I would like to embed this video outdoors in a natural cave (assuming a supply of electrical power.)
In an urban setting I would like to embed the video behind a hole in a crumbling wall - a votive object
of which you can only catch a glimpse.
Example site (diploma exhibit at the Academy of Fine Arts/Munich):
In this exhibit I was allotted one of many small rooms (storerooms, offices, etc.)
on a basement corridor. To the door frame I attached a black tunnel whose height rapidly decreased, forcing
you to hunch down or crawl on the sandy tunnel floor to enter a small cave holding the video monitor. Thus
the transit through the tunnel transformed the viewer from a removed observer into a physically involved participant.
Common equipment:
The following equipment would be common to any "buried monitor" installation:

- dark, so video monitor is the only light source.
- quiet, with no other sound sources in room

- low pedestal, covered in black cloth to raise monitor off ground
- simple golden picture frame that covers edges of monitor.
- black cloth drape to cover sides and top of monitor
